Teachers' (De)Motivation During COVID-19 Pandemic: A Case Study from Nepal

The COVID-19 pandemic has produced havoc in the world and Nepal is no exception. A transition from an in-person classroom to online been daunting for students teachers motivation level. impact of teacher morale often neglected by policymakers all stakeholders themselves, which may lead teachers’ lack or "demotivation". Teachers’ demotivation emotional, cognitive, socio-cultural psychological state that leads exhaustion, depersonalization, burnout, decreased achievement self-worth stress. This study aimed investigate factors supported hindered Nepalese EFL teachers' levels their classrooms. qualitative case was employed as a research design. Four secondary level teaching at private schools Kathmandu Valley were selected this study. participants chosen via systematic random sampling procedure. data analyzed interpreted using thematic approach, employing survey questionnaires, interviews, observation collection instruments. results revealed are intrinsically extrinsically demotivated. demotivate these include low wages, continuing professional development, students' disruptive behaviors, job insecurity, fewer holidays.
